Pg Programmes

NRTI’s postgraduate programmes will follow an innovative curriculum structure offering students a specialized, holistic and truly interdisciplinary academic experience:

Experiential: All programmes will be offered in collaboration with the transportation industry, especially Indian Railways, thereby enabling an application-oriented approach to academic learning.

Flexible: Students will have the flexibility to build an academic plan that has the requisite composition of core and elective subjects from all learning tracks: I (Domain knowledge), II (Multidisciplinary learning) and III (Self-discovery and professional development).

Rigorous: To earn a Master’s degree, each student will be required tocomplete the requisite minimum credit units over the programme period of 2 years of 3 trimesters each.

Holistic: Students would typically have two programme advisors, one expert mentor from the transportation industry, and one academic/research advisor from the university.

Interdisciplinary: The first three trimesters will be common to students across each of the MBA and MSc programmes. This will enable a cross cohort interaction, and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration among students and faculty.

MBA in Transportation Management

This program focusses on building a strong foundation in theories, methods and tools needed to design, organise and supervise transportation systems. The programme stresses effective development of analytical, problem-solving and management skills, with a strong focus on sustainability. Students will be offered specialised courses in areas such as managing investments of transportation systems, designing multi-modal transportation models, intelligent transport systems, environmental impact of transportation systems and traffic management & control to develop an interdisciplinary perspective. Elective courses will be offered in the fields of intelligent transportation systems, strategic management of railway operations, railway business management, business analytics, and safety and reliability.

MBA in Supply Chain Management

This program is designed to equip young professionals with a foundation in theories, methods, and tools for managerial and analytical skills for design, integration and coordination of supply chains at multiple levels, bringing innovative and dynamic solutions to a fast-paced business environment. Specialised courses are offered in areas such as logistics & warehousing systems, supply chain strategy, freight transportation and revenue management to develop an interdisciplinary perspective. Elective courses will be offered in the areas of project management, business management and business analytics.

MSc in Transport Technology and Policy

The curriculum is designed to provide a foundation in theories, methods, and tools needed to analyse transportation systems and the policies and technologies that govern them. This will create future technologists who will provide effective technological and policy solutions to challenges like environment sustainability in the transportation ecosystem. Specialised courses are offered in areas such as law, technology & public policy, information policy, multi-modal transportation models and public transportation systems to develop an interdisciplinary perspective. Elective courses will be offered in the area of public transportation systems, intelligent transportation systems, intelligent traffic systems, impact analysis of transportation systems and business analytics.

MSc in Transport Economics

This program builds a foundation in theories, methods, and tools needed to develop, analyse and present economic and policy measures which will lead to more sustainable transportation ecosystems. The programme offers specialized courses in areas such as transportation econometrics, transportation financing, welfare economics, public transportation economics and economics of regulation to develop an interdisciplinary perspective. The elective courses are offered in the field of business analytics, advance models in transportation financing, project funding models, revenue/yield management and project management.

MSc in Transport Information Systems and Analytics

The program builds foundation in theories, methods, and tools for advanced knowledge of information systems, data science, and analytics in the context of transportation. The program will train students with effective qualitative and quantitative skills necessary for professional, administration and teaching in transportation technology or planning & management. Specialized courses are offered in the areas of data models & decisions, information policy, big data and network theory to develop an interdisciplinary perspective. The elective courses are offered in the fields of business analytics, network theory, data collection & analysis in transportation models, big data models for transportations systems, traffic safety and reliability models.

MSc in Railway Systems Engineering & Integration (International degree program with University of Birmingham, UK)

This is a joint master’s programme in railway systems engineering and integration offered by NRTI and the University of Birmingham, UK. The program aims at providing a strong foundation in theories, methods, and tools needed to develop railway engineering knowledge, systems integration skills and understanding of the complex interactions between subsystems. Students will obtain two PG qualifications from both the institutions after spending a year each at both the institutions. The programme is supported by railway practitioners and will build the ability to work in multi-disciplinary project teams. The University of Birmingham will offer specialised courses in the areas of strategic management of railway operations, railway rolling stock systems design, railway traction systems design, railway control systems engineering and railway business management to develop an interdisciplinary perspective.
