About the Program :

The doctoral programme is available in two tracks: a full-time regular route with university assistantship for researchers and academics, and a working professional route for experienced practitioners in Government, PSU, Industry, and Defence who wish to pursue impactful, practice-grounded research in transportation and logistics.

SECTOR-EXCLUSIVE RESEARCH MANDATE:

The only doctoral programme in India exclusively focused on transportation and logistics — covering railways, roadways, waterways, airways, and multimodal logistics.

EMINENT FACULTY & DOMAIN EXPERTS:

Scholars are guided by faculty with PhDs from IITs and NITs, complemented by domain practitioners from Indian Railways, Alstom, IBM, RVNL, L&T, and Airbus.

REAL INDUSTRY PROBLEMS:

Dissertation topics are drawn from live operational challenges — with direct site access at Indian Railways establishments, PSUs, and logistics organisations.

FUNDED RESEARCH & PATENT CULTURE:

Active research funded by SERB/DST, Ministry of Railways, and British Council. Scholars are encouraged to co-author publications and file patents alongside dissertations.

NATIONAL MISSION ALIGNMENT:

Research contributes directly to the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (2021) and National Logistics Policy (2022) — placing scholars at the heart of India's infrastructure agenda.

MULTIDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH APPROACH:

Scholars pursue research spanning technology, management, and policy dimensions — with access to 20+ specialised labs, high-performance computing, and national digital library resources.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA (AY 2026-27)

M.Tech. / M.E. / M.Sc. (Engg/Science) or MS with minimum 60% or 6.5 CGPA (General / GEN-EWS / OBC) or 50% or 5.5 CGPA (SC/ST/PWD), and Bachelor’s degree with the same thresholds.

— OR —

4-year B.Tech. / B.E. / B.Sc. (Engg) with minimum 80% or 8.5 CGPA.

• Qualifying exam (Regular track): Qualifying exam (Regular track): Valid score in GATE / CSIR-NET / UGC-NET / NBHM / PM Fellowship / CAT / GMAT — 2024, 2025, or 2026 as mentioned in the Admission Notification.

WP track: requires full-time employment with minimum 2 years experience + employer NOC in prescribed format.

Written entrance test — minimum 50% marks required to qualify for Stage 2

Viva-voce

For candidates clearing the Entrance Test threshold

Final Merit: Entrance Test (50%) + Viva-voce (50%). Employer-sponsored candidates only. NOC in prescribed format required at admission.

Fees are subject to revision as approved by the Executive Council.

A Convocation Fee of ₹3,000 will be charged in the final year of the programme.

No Campus Facilities Charge or Medical Insurance for WP track.

Scholarships & Financial Aid :

University Assistantship

Provided as per MHRD / UGC norms to full-time regular PhD scholars. Not applicable for Working Professional track.

Scholars with a valid award from CSIR, UGC, DBT, ICAR, INSPIRE, or any recognised funding agency are admitted under the Individual Fellowship category and are not entitled to University Assistantship.

Provisional award holders must submit a signed undertaking at admission confirming GSV bears no liability if the fellowship is cancelled.

Note: University Assistantship is not applicable for the Working Professional track.
