Message from the Dean (Students's Welfare)

From the Desk of Dean – Students' Welfare

Greetings from the Office of the Dean—Students' Welfare. We extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to each of you.

Being human is a remarkable experience—each of us uniquely created in the image of our Creator. It is our privilege and responsibility to support your holistic development during this transformative phase of your life.

Wholesome development is rooted in four key dimensions:

Intellectual Development: Your primary identity as students is shaped by your pursuit of knowledge. There is no better definition of a student than "one who studies." Your academic journey at GSV is designed to sharpen your intellect, strengthen your problem-solving abilities, and prepare you for success and leadership in life.

Physical Well-being: A healthy physique enhances focus of mind, builds resilience, and helps manage stress, which is crucial for academic excellence. At GSV, we offer a nurturing environment for your physical well-being through sports, games, and active student clubs that promote fitness and team spirit.

Psychological wellness: GSV can promote students’ psychological wellness through accessible counselling services, mentorship, stress-management programmes, peer support, and opportunities for sports, cultural activities, and student clubs. These initiatives can help students manage academic pressure, build resilience and confidence, strengthen social connections, and maintain a healthy balance between academic and personal life.

Social Fitness: GSV builds your ability to foster meaningful relationships, be effective in communication and collaboration, and to adapt to a socially diverse environment through mingling with students from all states of diverse, beautiful India. GSV offers a wide range of student clubs for you to choose from, each designed to nurture your interests, talents, and passions. These clubs foster a culture of inclusivity, mutual growth, and shared joy through diverse events, collaborative activities, and vibrant cultural engagements.

Dearly beloved students, adolescence is a defining stage as you move to adulthood—intellectually, physically, hormonally, and socially. Neuroscience tells us that the prefrontal cortex, responsible for decision-making, abstract thinking, and social behaviour, is still developing and matures fully only by the age of 25. Don't forget the fact that your brain is 'Under Construction'. Therefore, listen to the wise and honest counsel of trustworthy elders, teachers and parents. Be careful of external negative influences of media, peer pressure, and social trends, which may tempt you towards risk-taking behaviours. Resist and restrain yourself from these temptations.

Fleeting pleasures may offer momentary comfort, but it is your discipline, hard work, and perseverance that will lead to lasting growth and fulfilment.

Let us journey together in hope— pursuing excellence, competence, compassion, and purpose in life, with love and forgiveness as our foundation. The Office of Students’ Welfare is always here to support you, guide you, and joyfully celebrate your progress at every step.

With warm regards and every good wish,

Dr. R. Edwin Raj
